Museum of Rock interview October 2003
Questions answered by Brian Daniloski
How did you come up with the band name?
Our original drummer came up with it. It was just based on putting two words together that you wouldn't necessarily put together so that we wouldn't find out years down the road that there was another band with that same name, which was a problem we had with our original name. How did you get started in music and how did the band get together?
I've been playing guitar since I was like 10 or so. After many, many years of jamming away in my bedroom and the occasional not very serious band, I decided that it would be cool to start a real band so I asked my brother if he wanted to start a band. We've been jamming together since the late 80's.How do you come up with your song ideas musically and lyrically?
We just jam on our instruments either in practice or at home and then when it's time to write a new song we'll just play ideas that we've come up with for each other. We'll change things up or reject stuff or whatever. Everything goes through a pretty rigorous trial period before it's finalized. Lyrically I just come up with ideas based on random thoughts. Our bassist Jason likes to use a lot rock imagery in his lyrics. How did you come up with the album cover idea?
We pretty much leave the album art up to our friend Stephen Kasner. We'll suggest ideas that we're trying to put across on a particular album but ultimately it's all him.
How long has the band been together and how many albums have you put out?
MEATJACK has been together for 10 years. We've released 2 full length CD's, a split w/ Damad and a slew of 7" vinyl records and songs on compilations. We probably would've managed more full lengths if it wasn't for fairly regular lineup changes. MEATJACK is a heavy duty touring lifestyle and it's hard for some people to hang too long.
What are your tour plans?
Right now we're in the middle of our fall 2003 U.S. tour. It hits most of the U.S. except the west coast. We plan to hit there in spring. Hopefully we can get over to Europe sometime soon too.
What do you see for the future of the band?
Just continuing to put out albums and tour like we've always done. Hopefully things will just continue to grow.
