Burnout interview (French fanzine) 2000
When did you start this band? What did you want to achieve?
MEATJACK began in 1993,
we just wanted to play, write and record music that was
unique.
What's the meaning of your band name?
Our first
drummer came up with the name and we thought it sounded good. It doesn’t have
any particular meaning but it sounded heavy.
How do you manage
your influences?
Some of our influences
include King Crimson, Black Sabbath, Black Flag, old Butthole Surfers, AC/DC
& Melvins to name a few.
Do you try to create a completely
original music?
Yes.
Do you situate your band in a kind
of scene or do you feel independent from any movement?
We feel
compatible with certain bands, but we don’t feel like we’re a part of any
particular scene.
Do you book shows for other bands or write a
zine or whatever? What would be your dream of a show, who would you invite for
the best show ever?
We try to hook up bands that we like with shows when
they come through our town.
Our dream show would have to be a festival that
included Keelhaul, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Tom Waits, KISS, Damad,
Van Halen (w/ David Lee Roth of course), AC/DC, Icepick Revival, Mastodon, Devo,
The Residents, Melvins, Celtic Frost (Pandemonium-era), Disassociate, Frank
Zappa, Zeni Geva, Diamanda Galas, Swans, Lamb of God, Stinking Lizaveta, Spirit
Caravan.....the list could go on forever.
Are you into art? Do
you consider yourself as an artist?
Yes and yes.
Are you
an unrest person?
The music is our release so that we are able to rest
& not do bad things to others.
For me, your lyrics deal with
psycho interactions between people, sometimes even schitzo tendencies. Do you
agree? Do you think that writing seriously helps getting off insanity or do you
play game? - this question purpose is to draw a line between 1st and 2nd
degree.
The lyrics are about human interactions and the darker side of
human nature. Some involve outward observations and some
inward.
What's behind SUCKPiG?
Brian-SUCKPiG is my solo
project. It's layers of guitar & percussion with some vocals and samples.
It repetitive & floating. I call the pieces "noise-scapes".
Any chance to see the
SUCKPiG tape on digital
recording?
Hopefully soon.
Favorite records at the moment? New
projects?
Keelhaul (upcoming album), Icepick Revival (upcoming EP),
Spirit Caravan-Jug Fulla Sun.
Our new projects are to write & record
a new album and go on tour again.
